Alternative Response is a more collaborative way for the Department of Social Services (DSS) to respond to families with the least serious child abuse and neglect cases. It allows families to better partner with DSS to jointly determine what, if any, interventions are needed and, as a result, families are more engaged in receiving assistance.
Advocates for Children and Youth co-lead the Evaluation Workgroup of Maryland’s Alternative Response Advisory Council. We continue to monitor the year-long implementation process, which will be completed in July 2014. The first report from the evaluators will be completed in October 2014 and we are working with the evaluators to ensure the evaluation is on track and going smoothly.
