Advocates for Children and Youth (ACY) was founded in 1987 by a group of prominent child advocates in Maryland who saw the need for an independent organization to advocate for the needs of the state’s children and families in the community, the media and the public policy arena.
Advocates for Children and Youth builds a strong Maryland by advancing policies and programs to ensure children and families of every race, ethnicity, and place of birth achieve their full potential.
OUR STATEMENT ON SOCIAL JUSTICE, DIVERSITY, RACIAL EQUITY, AND INCLUSION
Advocates for Children and Youth (ACY) honors social justice, diversity, race equity, and inclusion. We speak out boldly against the racial disparities that continue to divide our state, devastate families, and kill the dreams, visions, and potential of children and youth in this country. Incident, after videotaped incident, racism, exclusion, bigotry, discrimination, prejudice, power, and privilege —blatant or covert—seem to go unchecked.
But no longer.
ACY will be engaged in preserving equity, demanding change, and dismantling systems that oppress, undermine, and destroy the visions, dreams, and potential of Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and Asian American children, youth, families, and communities. Join us in our efforts to reform systems as we advance policies and programs to ensure children and youth of every race, ethnicity, and place of birth achieve their full potential which will ultimately lift us all.
We won’t be silent because at this moment, at this very hour, a child or youth is dying socially, physically, emotionally, financially, or mentally. And it must stop.
