Maryland’s lawmakers should continue to focus on funding public education, not private or religious schools. Vouchers and tax credits that benefit non-public schools divert money from an already strained budget with no assurance that low-income children will benefit. Moreover, private and religious schools are not held accountable to the state and for achieving Maryland’s educational standards. ACY’s fundamental goal is to ensure that all children have fair and equitable access to educational opportunities.

ACY opposes efforts to:
• Establish voucher or tax credit systems that would benefit private or religious schools
• Increase the amount of funding allocated to private or religious schools in the operating or capital budgets
