Julie Nicols is a Special Education teacher and case manager in Philadelphia who is passionate about ensuring that all children are given what they need to succeed. Originally from Holden Massachusetts, Julie completed her undergraduate degree in sociology at Fordham University in New York City. She joined Teach For America after college and was placed at a high school in North Philadelphia. For the next three years, Julie taught learning support, honors English, journalism, and drama while also earning her Master’s of Education from the University of Pennsylvania.

In 2018, she moved to Mastery Charter Schools where she teaches intensive reading intervention and case manages students with varying needs. Julie has enjoyed seeing students grow academically, socially, and emotionally through her work with them inside and outside of the classroom. For three consecutive years, more than 80% of her students’ IEP goals have shown significant progress. Julie hopes to be a leader in a Special Education department or education non-profit in the future. When she is not teaching, Julie enjoys spending quality time with her two favorite guys – her husband and her cat Geordi.
